USC Campaigns

Here are some of our projects for 2008:

Campus Climate Challenge: We're working with students, faculty and administrators to get a presidential commitment to making the USC campus more sustainable. We're also planning events to raise awareness with students. On top of that, we're working to help pass state and federal legislation to combat global warming.

Making Textbooks Affordable: On average, students spend $450 a semester on textbooks. We're working to stop textbook rip-offs and educating students on how to save money when buying their books. We currently have a textbooks bill before Congress that would make textbooks pricing more transparent and help drive down prices. The bill has passed the House and is now going to the Senate.

Hunger and Homelessness: We have Skid Row in our backyard and over 80,000 homeless in our city but we're the wealthiest nation in the world. We'll be raising awareness and taking action to help the hungry and impoverished. This will lead up to our Hunger Cleanup in April, where USC students will join together to volunteer at local hunger relief agencies and raise money to help those in need.

New Voters Project: This fall, we’ll be working to register and turn out the youth vote across the state. This spring, we're setting up for the fall by building a voter registration coalition on campus and working to institutionalize voter registration on campus.

Public Transit: Ever wanted to travel to Northern California in 2 1/2 hours? We’re advocating for a high-speed rail line that would travel from San Diego to Sacramento. The high speed rail proposal should be on the ballot this November.

Oceans: Our ocean is threatened by pollution, trash, and overfishing. We're working to establish marine protection areas to protect our coast, ban additional offshore oil and gas drilling, and reduce the flow of trash into the ocean. Locally, we're trying to reduce the use of plastic bags at the bookstore and on campus and we're organizing beach clean-ups.
