UCI collects 75 petitions to make textbooks more affordable
Today, UCI hosted the Textbook Rebellion, a nationwide tour calling for cheaper textbook options. We al know that textbooks are way to expensive, but it often feels like there's nothing we can do about it. The Texbook Rebellion is also supported by Flat World Knowledge, a publishing company that uses open source materials as part of its business strategy. The tour aims to collect 10,000 petition signatures from 40 campuses from August to October, supporting open-source textbooks and textbook rental programs. By wearing the costumes, we were able to draw students over to us, and once they realized what our petitions were for, few were hesitant to sign. We collected 75 petitions signatures at Irvine alone! It was a very successful day and a ton of fun.
